Privacy Policy

How MoonCal collects, uses, and protects your personal data, the third-party services we rely on, and the rights you have over your information.

Effective date: 2026-05-20

MoonCal ("we", "us") helps you turn lunar dates such as birthdays, anniversaries, and festivals into calendar subscriptions you can read in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook, and other apps. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and how you can control it. We collect only what is needed to run the service.

Data we collect

CategoryWhat it includes
Account informationYour email address and a securely hashed password, managed by our authentication provider. We never store your password in plain text.
Content you createCalendars (name, description, time zone, language preference) and events (title, notes, type such as birthday or anniversary, lunar or solar date, and optional birth year used to label ages). These are stored so we can generate your calendar subscriptions.
Feedback you sendWhen you submit feedback we collect your email address, your message, the page URL you sent it from, your browser locale, and your browser user-agent string to help us reproduce issues.
Automatically collectedAggregated, privacy-friendly usage analytics (page views, interactions) and performance metrics collected through our analytics and performance-monitoring providers.

How we use your data

  • To create and serve your calendar subscriptions (the core function of MoonCal).
  • To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
  • To respond to your feedback and diagnose problems you report.
  • To understand aggregate usage and improve performance and reliability.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Your subscription links

Each calendar has a private subscription link containing a unique, randomly generated token. Anyone who has the link can read that calendar without signing in — this is how your calendar app fetches updates. Treat the link like a password and share it only with people you trust. You can revoke a link at any time by regenerating the token, which immediately invalidates the old one.

Third-party services

We use trusted service providers to operate MoonCal, including hosting, database storage, authentication, usage analytics, performance monitoring, and operational notifications. These providers process only the limited personal data necessary to provide their services to us, and may not use it for third-party advertising.

If you would like the current list of our service providers, contact us via the feedback entry at the bottom of the page.

Cookies

We use cookies only to keep you signed in (authentication session). Analytics are collected without tracking cookies that identify you personally. We do not use advertising cookies.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete a calendar it is first soft-deleted, then permanently removed after 90 days. You can delete your calendars at any time in the app. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us via the feedback entry at the bottom of the page.

Your rights

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — update inaccurate information directly in the app or by contacting us.
  • Deletion — delete your calendars and events in the app, or request full account deletion via the feedback entry.
  • Export — request a copy of your calendars and events.

Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU GDPR or China’s PIPL), you may have additional rights. We honor these requests regardless of your location.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date shown on this page.
